What is the Cinco de Mayo 5K?
The Cinco de Mayo 5K is a professionally timed 5K put on by Cafecito Caliente, a group that works hard to create a loving a nurturing environment for Latino culture in the Lansing area. A portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting the Capital Area Youth Program.
The course will include parts of scenic Maguire Park, the shady River Trail, and the vast Hawk Island Park. The course is set up like a loop so you will end where you began at Maguire Park. When you loop back around to the finish line, you’ll be greeted with delicious food from a Mexican food truck right at the park.
Stick around with your fellow runners to replenish your calories with tacos, quesadillas, and other Mexican favorites, and celebrate your 5K accomplishments. The overall male and female in each division will receive an award once the 5K is concluded. The divisions are 10 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 to 79.
All are welcome to participate in the 5K as it is a runner- and walker-friendly event. You can even participate in the cause by “running” virtually. Register as a virtual runner, record your own time, and you’ll still be able to support this wonderful cause.
