The struts provide stability and support to the springs. The shock absorbers absorb residual bouncing of the springs, preventing the car from bouncing off the road.

While springs will generally last the lifetime or your Chevrolet, the shocks and struts will wear over time. So it's important that they are regularly inspected to determine if they need servicing or replacing. Inspection is critical if you observe any of these symptoms:
- The car bounces
- Ride seems very stiff without any bounce at all
- Nose of the car dips when stopping.
- Car leans and sways when making a turn
- Steering is slow in responding
