Where the Arts Council of Greater Lansing Began

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing was founded in 1965 with the mission of providing education and resources to the many artists, art organizations, and cultural agencies in the Greater Lansing community.

For the last 50+ years, they’ve worked hard to empower the arts by offering funding for programs and education. They support these programs by creating funds through fun art events and acquiring donations. Then, these funds are dispersed to artists and art organizations throughout the community in order to keep the arts bright and vibrant in Greater Lansing.

What They Do for the Greater Lansing Community

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is a multi-faceted organization that’s dedicated to four different areas of support starting with their Arts in Schools initiative. By offering access to arts education, Greater Lansing children can create a solid artistic skillset and take advantage of an outlet for creative expression.

They also work on a Professional Development initiative that’s designed to support professional artists and a Creative Placemaking initiative that takes the skills of these professional artists to drive economic development in the Greater Lansing community.

One more pillar of care that the Arts Council of Greater Lansing uses to support the community is their Advocacy initiative. This pillar focuses on educating the community on the importance of the arts and the key role they play in our society.
