Local Spotlight: Michigan League for Public Policy
Turning talk into action is the first step to making a positive impact on your community. From lending a helping hand to organizing in your neighborhood, there are so many ways you can make a difference. To lead the way and make sure the necessary laws and policies are put into place, there’s the Michigan League for Public Policy.
Over a Century of Advocacy
The Michigan League for Public Policy (MLPP) is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that advocates for racial, social, and economic equality. Since 1912 they’ve been working to eradicate poverty and create opportunities for families, working people, and children throughout The Wolverine State.
Opportunity For All
The MLPP has gone through several names over the last 100 years. One thing that hasn’t changed is their mission. They are constantly pushing for racial equity, economic equality for all, and better health and well-being for all Michiganders.
By using comprehensive data and working with the state government, they advocate for the public policies and changes that make Michigan a better place to live. Some of the ways they make an impact include:
- Creating New Economic Opportunities
- Promoting New Job Skills
- Assisting Families with Young Children
- Pushing for Smart Community Investments
Community Building
The MLPP is committed to fighting for members of the community who are struggling and need assistance. To achieve this, they start by focusing on racial equality. From there, they compile data and work with local organizations and state government.
This data-driven approach allows them to analyze the underlying causes of economic, health, and poverty issues. After getting to the root of the problem, they push for policy changes in the state budget.
In addition to organizing and calling for new policies, they work with other non-profit organizations like Kids’ Count to help them create change in their communities.
