What is Stabilitrak?

What Does Service Stabilitrak Mean on a Chevy Equinox?Stabilitrak helps you drive in a straight line by monitoring and adjusting the steering, braking, and traction of your vehicle.

Using sensors to figure out the position of the steering wheel and tires, this system will check that they match the direction your vehicle is moving. If it senses that the vehicle seems to be out of control, it’ll make automatic adjustments to bring it back under your control. It’ll do this by applying brake pressure to certain wheels, encouraging the car to straighten out.

How to Know if You Have a Problem with Stabilitrak

If you have problems with your Stabilitrak system, it can be a symptom of several different issues. When it’s not functioning properly, you might notice a difference in the way your vehicle shifts gears, or you may find that your vehicle has lost power.

You should also see a dashboard light that looks like a vehicle with curved tire marks behind it. This light lets you know key information about the Stabilitrak system. Whenever you start the vehicle, it should appear briefly to let you know that it’s functioning. Then, if you turn Stabilitrak off, you’ll see the same symbol with the word OFF below it.

When there’s a problem with the Stabilitrak system, you’ll likely get a message about it in the Driver Information Center as well as see the Stabilitrak dashboard light turn on and stay on.

If this happens, you can try to stop the vehicle, turn it off for 15 seconds, then restart the engine. Once you start driving again, check to see if the light is still on and if you have any new notifications in the Driver Information Center. If you do, you can technically keep driving with it, but you’ll want to make an appointment with a service center to get the problem diagnosed.
